I’ve lived in Minnesota my whole life.  My grandparents came to Minnesota from the old country and never saw reason to move on.  I’m always surprised when I meet someone not born and raised locally.   My husband moved to Florida with his family when he was 13 years old, but ran home to Minnesota as soon as he turned 18.  We raised four kids in Minnesota, in a house with a porch and, in the backyard, a wood with deer and little red squirrels.  I am the prototypical Minnesotan.  To share a dish of anything with me means that I will never take the last bite, so unless you do, we will be eating into infinity.

But lately, I’ve been thinking.  Could I live some other place?  Even in some other country?  What if Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Jeb Bush, and the Koch Brothers were someone else’s problem?  What would happen to me if I didn’t live in this neighborhood where on Sundays, the police directing traffic force me to turn into the parking lot of the evangelical church where, God knows, everyone else is heading?

I feel I must, at least, consider the possibility.  So?  Where to?

How about Iceland?  In Iceland they believe in elves.  I’m willing to consider elves.

According to Wikipedia, Iceland ranks highly in economic, political and social stability and equality.  AndIceland offers not just stability and equality but paganism.  Ásatrú [a neo-pagan movement] was founded in 1972, but its following has climbed steeply in recent years, doubling since 2009 to nearly 2,700 members. So says the Atlantic Magazine.

Still, everyone is looking for easy answers these days.  Everyone is seeking a father figure.  Thor will do as well as any other.   How is this different from every other evangelical movement?

Trust me!  Iceland is different!  Iceland believes in, generosity, munificence, liberality.  Iceland believes in protecting the environment and letting all kinds of people live as equals within the system.   Whoa!   Sing along… My kind of town! Reykjavik is my kind of town.

Be prepared to find this seeker singing the praises of other cities/nations/planets.
